Coral Gables Police sets goal of an ALPR system utilizing assistance from IBM's Smarter Cities Challenge

The Coral Gables Police Department hopes to utilize assistance and technological input from IBM's Smarter Cities Challenge in creating a mobile and stationary Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) system. The desired system will allow license plate reader cameras to feed images and information to a command center which in turn will use the data to create predictive analysis, investigative tools, and data sharing opportunities within the tri county area of Miami Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. The ALPR system is the beginning stage of an information and data sharing venture that the City of Coral Gables intends to build to structure a new and future evolving intelligence stream for the Coral Gables Police Department,  and the University of Miami Public Safety Department.
